Field testing with end-users on the Ukrainian frontlines

The Dutch Defence Cluster makes regular field visits to speak with end-users. What takes months of text messages and calls, can be solved in minutes in the field.
The visit usually involves testing different solutions, in this case batteries from Tulip Tech. We worked with brigades and specialized military units in the oblasts of Dnipro, Donetsk and Kharkiv.
Observations
The results of the war are everywhere visible. What is different now compared to a few months back is the enormous amount of anti-drone nets, close to the frontline. From about ~30km from active fighting inhabitants are preparing themselves for the huge amount of FPVs.
The visits are not only valuable to gather feedback, but are also important for the understanding. Travelling here, speaking to people, living here for some time, changes one’s perspective. These are learnings that must be shared in the Dutch community, so we can innovate better towards European security.
Last but not least, you are always very warmly received by the brigades. They show through food, drinks and presents their appreciation. It boosts their morale, to receive people “from the Kingdom of The Netherlands”, and to know that we have not forgotten.

Many roads close to the front-line are covered in anti-drone nets, protecting it from FPV drones.
